Lymphatic Drainage Massage

What is Lymphatic Drainage Massage?

Lymphatic Drainage Massage (LDM) employs external massage strokes to facilitate the movement of fluids from body tissues into the lymphatic system. Key points about LDM include:

Mimicking the Lymphatic System: LDM replicates the lymphatic system by utilizing repetitive strokes at a precise speed, rhythm, and pressure.

Immune System Stimulation: LDM stimulates the immune system by moving stagnant tissue fluid into lymphatic vessels, facilitating transportation through lymph nodes, and purification by lymphocytes.

Relaxation and Edema Reduction: Known for its relaxing effects, LDM reduces edema, improves fluid flow, and aids in restoring the nervous system to a state of homeostasis (balance).

During LDM, therapists employ varied skin movements—lengthwise, horizontally, and diagonally. These movements stretch microfilaments beneath the skin, controlling openings to initial lymphatics. This process allows interstitial fluid, bathing the body's cells, to enter the lymphatic system while stimulating lymph vessels to contract.
